What is dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty that affects how individuals process written and spoken language. It is not related to intelligence, but rather how the brain processes information. This can affect literacy skills like reading, writing, and spelling, and other areas like organisational skills.
Dyslexia affects individuals differently, and its severity can vary. It can be hereditary, so if a family member has it, there’s a higher chance that a child might experience similar difficulties. Early identification and tailored support are key to helping those with dyslexia succeed in all aspects of their life both in the classroom and beyond.

Testimonials
It’s never too late to seek help, and understanding your child’s unique needs can make a significant difference in their educational journey. Here’s what people are saying about me:

I felt safe and comfortable whilst having my test for Dyslexia. Rosie was patient and understanding and was willing to repeat herself to help me understand. Rosie was incredibly welcoming and lovely and I would definitely recommend Dyslexia Discovery.

For a long time we thought our son wasn’t very academic and didn’t put much effort in at school. He was a bright articulate boy who seemed a capable reader but struggled especially with writing. After his diagnosis we realised that he struggles with the processing of language. Rosie has helped our son access the support he needs in school, and restore his confidence. We can’t recommend her enough.

I recently got diagnosed with Dyslexia by Rosie and I would highly recommend her. She was very patient and welcoming, offering me breaks when I needed them. She took time to explain in detail her reasoning for diagnosing me. Thank you Rosie.

How it works

Deciding to be assessed
If your child is facing persistent challenges with reading, writing, or spelling, despite receiving extra help – it may be time to consider a full dyslexia assessment.
Some children continue to find basic literacy tasks challenging even with added support such as tutoring or special accommodations. If your child consistently struggles with reading, spelling, handwriting, or organising themselves, or if they experience frequent frustration and anxiety over schoolwork, a professional evaluation can provide the clarity you need.
Dyslexia often runs in families. An assessment is particularly important if there’s a family history of learning difficulties and your child is showing signs of academic challenges. A formal assessment can uncover the underlying issues for older children still facing hurdles in reading fluency and other learning areas.

What is involved?
A Diagnostic Assessment is intended to confirm whether an individual has dyslexia or not. It can provide a confirmed diagnosis of dyslexia, as well as a clearer picture of the person’s strengths and weaknesses and their individual cognitive profile.
Before the assessment takes place, I gather important background information from parents and the child’s school to build a full picture of their learning journey.
Duration
The assessment takes 2-4 hours, with plenty of breaks to keep the child comfortable and focused.
location
I offer assessments in Leigh-on-Sea, in Southend, Essex.
price
The assessment costs £600, including a full report and 20 minute follow up telephone or virtual consultation to review it.
